Summer Hockey Camps - 2012

rmu-hockey-camp

Our goal is to provide a program that has a fun and challenging atmosphere.  The RMU HOCKEY ACADEMY staff, which is comprised of professional hockey coaches and players, is dedicated to creating a safe and competitive environment.  Each day we will present your child with the toools and resources that will challenge them to reach their potential.  Our low student to instructor ratios enables us to ensure each participant will recieve individual attention further enhancing the development of their hockey skill sets.

The key to being a successful hockey player is hard work, dedication, and proper instruction.  Even the best players must continually update and refine their skills in order to reach that next level of play.  To help players reach their goals, THE RMU HOCKEY ACADEMY of the Island Sports Center offers a wide variety of summer hockey camp options that are designed specifically to target the key skills of the game players look most to improve.

Players should register for programs where they will skate in the 2012-13 season.

Skill Development Camp
Mite / Squirt    -    June 11 - 15, 2012 * 9:00 am - Noon

Intended as a basic all-around hockey camp, this option is ideal for the player who has participated this past hockey season at the B level in PAHL, a house or developmental league, or has completed a learn-to-play-hockey program.  The focus of this camp is to enhance the development of the entire hockey player through attention to the core skills in the game, including skating, stick handlin, and shooting.  Use of stations and various small-area games will also aid in the learning process

FEE: $325

Power Skating & Shoot to Score Camp
Mite    -    Jully 9 - 13, 2012 * 9:00 am - Noon
Squirt    -    July 9 - 15, 2012 * 1:00 - 4:00 pm
Pee Wee / Bantam    -    June 11 - 15, 2011 * 1:00 - 4:00 pm

Ask any coach what the number one skill of the game is, and the answer is likely going to be skating.  Now ask any player what skill they like to work on the most, and the answer is sure to be shooting.  This camp blends both skill together into one exciting package.  Participants will learn to maximize their skating potential through drills and techniques that focus on improving stride length, mastering all four edges, lateral movement, first two steps, acceleration, agility, and more.  Shooting concepts coverd will include wrist shots, backhand shots, snapshots, one-timer, shooting for rebounds, fakes, shooting in stride, deflections, and more!

FEE: $325

Forward / Defenseman Camp
Squirt / Pee Wee    -    June 18 - 22, 2012 * 9:00 am - Noon
Bantam / Midget    -    June 18 - 22, 2012 *1:00 - 4:00 pm

This camp focuses on the specifics of playing either forward or defense.  All players are on the ice together but split by position on the ice during the first half of each day, working on position specific skills and concepts.  That preperation leads us to the second part of each day where players will participate in game-situation type drills that mimic an coincide with the concepts and skills discussed earlier in the day.  We will also utilize small-area games which limits the time and space in which a player must make a play further enhancing the learning process and creating a competitive atmosphere.

Space for this camp is limited to 24 forwards and 16 Defensemen

FEE: $325

Power Skating & Game Skills Camp

This camp is great for those players that possess a strong foundation in both skating - and hockey -specific skills.  Players that participated in the previous season at the A level or above will benefit most from this camp.  Participants will learn to maximize their skating potential through drills and techniques that focus on improving stride lenght, mastering all four adges, lateral movement, first two steps, acceleration, agility and more.  During the hockey skill part of each day, players will be instructed on individual skills such as shooting, passing, stick handling, angling/steering, 1 on 1 play, as well as team skills including 2 on 1 / 3 on 2, using space, etc.  Stations and small groups will be used to maximize learning potential.

Goalie Camp
All Ages    -    July 30 - August 3, 2012 * 1:30 - 3:00 PM

By far one of the most difficult positions to play in hockey, goaltending has become much more than standing in front of the net to block shots.  Goaltenders today need to have extremely strong skating skills and technical know how in order to be successful.  This camp will cover the fundamentals of goaltending, including, stance angles, following the puck and movements.  It will also touch on more advanced concepts as puck handling, butterfly position, blocking vs. reacting, recovery and more.

If your child needs to borrow goalie equipment, we do have a limited number of goaltender sets that can be signed out while participating in this camp.  This is a great option for parents of players that may be interested in the position, but do not want to purchase the gear first with out trying it out.  Please contact the camp director for details.

Fee: $215

Checking Camp
Bantam and above    -    July 30 - August 3, 2012 * 12:00 - 1:30 PM

For many players the introduction of checking to the game can cause a great deal of anxiety.  The aim of this camp is to reduce the anxiety through the education of proper checking techniques and to instill confidence through a structured environment, where body contact is encouraged.  Geared for players that are entering a checking level of play for the first time, and even those older players that want additional guidance, instruction will be given on angling, pinning, giving a check, taking a check, use of the stic to take away space and much more.
